Last night, the Senate voted to repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP). This may mean hundreds of dollars more in monthly social security benefits for families that also have a Canada Pension. In this video, we discuss:
– The Social Security Fairness Act
– How WEP and GPO impact families with a Canada Pension
– What is next for WEP
– What we still don’t know

Great news!
Good morning Bryan
I wonder if you know how many people have already received the WEP reduction reimbursements and changes to their monthly plans? I am still waiting and I live outside of the United States and I am a former permanent resident. I imagine people in my situation may be further down the list.
I am aware of course that the social security is in potential chaos at the moment but it helps to hear if you have any verifications of those who have experienced these changes.
I am hoping against hope that anyone (like myself) who is already receiving social security is less likely to see this payment eliminated all together. Again, I realize nothing is predictable at the moment.
Thank you
Thomas
Hi Thomas,
According to the social security website, 71% of people impacted by WEP have seen an adjustment. Many of my clients have gotten the lump sum already. You are probably correct, that you may be further down the list as a non-citizen and resident.
Thanks,
Bryan
Cheers and thank you Bryan!
